There are light planning and design in the industry, the current situation of construction, mainly in the following ways.
a. Building the building structure first and planning the data center later, which brings insurmountable difficulties for data center planning and design.
b. The phenomenon of starting renovation after the construction of server rooms and equipment installation is common.
c. Determining the equipment first and then the program, and replacing the equipment before it is operational because the functions of the purchased equipment do not meet the program requirements or the site does not meet the requirements of the installation conditions.
d. The construction structure is difficult to meet the data center site layout requirements, making the partition planning of the server room unreasonable; the outdoor unit of air conditioning cannot be installed or is too far away; the power room is too far away from the mainframe room, increasing transmission and management difficulties, increasing costs and reducing reliability.
The system is three parts construction, seven parts maintenance, any equipment may fail, and can be quickly repaired has become a key indicator to improve the availability.
The phenomenon of neglecting maintainability and repairability is shown as follows
a. The planning and design stage does not consider the later maintenance channel and maintenance space, for example, the equipment is too close to the wall, the battery is placed against the wall, the cable layout is unreasonable, the cable pipeline or the alignment frame blocks the weak wire slot above, making it impossible to repair later, and the maintenance tools are difficult to perform.
b. When a failure occurs, emergency supplies and spare parts can not be quickly transported, faulty equipment and device replacement without maintenance operation space and other issues, delaying the time frame for fault disposal or even cause major accidents.
c. Failure to consider the redundancy guarantee capability of the system in case of equipment maintenance in the later stage of failure.
d. Not adopting automation means as much as possible to minimize the manual operation of maintenance personnel and reduce the uncertainty and uncontrollability due to manual operation.
System availability is the most important index of data center planning and design, but the lack of scientific basis in planning and design is mainly manifested as follows
a. Data centers carry out projections of reliability of each system during planning and design, but at present, the basis and data sources of reliability projections by various design institutes and different designers are not yet unified, resulting in different definitions and different results for the design level and reliability of the same data center.
b. There exist cases of planning, design and construction for availability first, and then back-projecting the design level after the construction is completed, and recommending to data center users with the back-projected level standard. This is a design that puts the cart before the horse, often because of certain key defects in the design that cause the grade to drop because of the existence of key defects, although the vast majority of the design meets the grade requirements.
c. Paying attention only to the availability of equipment or links (subsystems) and ignoring the impact of the correlation between subsystems in the whole system on availability.
